Australians are taking antidepressants in record numbers and for longer than ever, but coming off them can be ‘frightening’

The rate of antidepressants prescribed to Australians has doubled over the last decade. Withdrawal symptoms from antidepressants can include migraines, nausea and electric shock like sensations and worsening of existing symptoms such as depression. Parents and adults are not always informed that to safely withdraw they must only do so under a doctor’s supervision
